Covid vaccine Lombardia, Bertolaso: “We will lower the age in the most affected municipalities. Perhaps a slowdown for the categories not at risk"
il Fatto Quotidiano – 24 febbraio 2021
“We will do an experiment: in the municipalities on the border between the province of Bergamo And Brescia, among the most affected by the English variant, we will lower the age and also vaccinate citizens between 60 and 79 years old. Between tomorrow and the day after tomorrow we will vaccinate 24 people in those territories ”. This is the new strategy presented today by the commissioner on the vaccination plan Guido Bertolaso in Lombardy region.
A change of pace that according to Bertolaso: “It will not lead to a slowdown for the elderly in the other provinces, but we will probably slow down sector 1 bis, i.e. those categories that deal with social activities, etc., which all in all are not the most at risk. It is clear that the blanket is what it is, more than a blanket, we have a handkerchief".
The categories of sector 1 bis, as stated on the Lombardy Region website, are workers in the following sectors: Rsd, psychiatric residency, home care and their operators; Day Care Centers (RSA); Pharmacists; Confprofessions (dentists, etc.); Military and personal healthcare to be used in the subsequent phases (State Police); Accredited clinics and other independent doctors; Pharmaceutical sales reps/ other operators.
She also intervened on the matter Letizia Moratti, new Councilor for Welfare and Vice President of the Region:
“We have decided one remodulation of the vaccination strategy and asked the ministry to remodulate the vaccination schedules for subjects who have tested positive for Covid-19, in order to provide for either the administration of a single dose or the postponement of its administration by six months, a hypothesis validated by literature data and experiences in course. A positive response would allow us to have more vaccine doses, now scarce ”.
We will also focus on areas where there are outbreaks, to avoid filling hospitals. The new remodeling of the vaccination program will keep unchanged those envisaged for the over 80s and for the categories included in 'Phase 1 bis' (psychiatric residency, home care and related operators, day care centres, pharmacists, dentists, military healthcare, state police, accredited clinics, freelance doctors, drug sales representatives).
We are now waiting to understand if this emergency choice and the above data will also convince the Roman palaces and will lead to a national change of pace of the vaccination strategy.
