Trento, medicines are ordered with the smartphone

Check if the medicine is on the shelves of the nearest pharmacy, reserve it or, if it is not there, order it. All this without leaving your home or office, for yourself and your family. This is the main advantage of FarmApp, the application launched by Municipal Pharmacies for the province of Trento.

Stuploadable since December 2014, it has already won over 3,300 users so far. Which promise to grow given that the application simplifies a procedure, that of the dematerialized recipe, which has already been in place for two years in the province. In fact, since December 2013, doctors' prescriptions end up on an online platform that can be consulted by pharmacies: to obtain the medicine, the user only has to show his health card.

According to data from Lorenzo Arnoldi, director general of the Municipal Pharmacies of Trento, “the 84% of prescriptions in the province are processed with this system. Our application makes it even more functional”. Designed for chronically ill and disabled people, it is also appreciated by families who, through FarmApp, are able to order medicines for everyone without having to juggle leaflets and cards. But it is also very useful for assistants and carers, who can manage the reservations of medicines for the patients they take care of with just a few clicks.

The next step? “Ordering and booking non-recipe products as well. And maybe pay via smartphone, activating home delivery services”, anticipates Arnoldi. The goal is to bring the application outside the province of Trento: the infrastructure could also support other areas of Italy and the Farmacie Comunali spa have already made contact to offer their software to other entities. Meanwhile, FarmApp has inaugurated a function that is also useful for those passing through Trento and its surroundings: a database with opening hours and addresses of pharmacies, to be consulted via geolocation.
