Japan's Takeda would be about to cut 10% of its workforce, a total of 1,900 employees, in anticipation of the difficulties associated with generic competition. The Osaka-based company now has 19,600 employees, including 10,300 outside Japan. The largest cut will be made in the United States, where Takeda employs about 5,000 people: 28% of the 1,300 employees at the Deerfield, Illinois site, and 20% of the personnel at the Lake Forest center, also in Illinois, will be cut. The decision was made after the release of the company's quarterly results, which in the first three months of 2010 recorded a 27% increase in net income, but a 4.7% decline in sales
