More than 12 million francs were disbursed in 2017, even anonymously. The complaint: "This affects the prescriptions"
In 2017, the pharmaceutical industry paid Swiss doctors a total of 12.5 million francs [Editor's note: 11 million euros]. Although the so-called "Big Pharma" companies decided in 2016 to make public the amount of the amounts paid, as noted by RTS, the system is still far from being transparent. In fact, doctors are still allowed to receive money while remaining anonymous.
The Swiss Medical Federation (FMH), for its part, recognizes the risk of conflict of interest, appreciates transparency efforts and encourages doctors to come out in the open, but does not contest the payments: participation in industry-organized conferences, FMH claims, "contributes to the dissemination of knowledge".
“The system clearly has an influence on prescriptions. – complains instead Anne Chailleu, vice president of the French association Formindep – But the problem is in the lack of controls”. The Federal Office of Health, for its part, has announced that it intends to limit compensation to a maximum of 300 francs from 2020.
