Compensation to former employees of Merck Serono pharmaceuticals should be increased. This is what the Chamber of Collective Labor Relations in Geneva hopes for, where the company has recently closed its doors.
The staff representatives had welcomed the proposal, but the German group did not appear to agree and decided not to accept the recommendation.
The assembly of employees, meeting this afternoon, by a large majority approved new measures to fight for improvements in the social plan. in fact, a strike is already planned for Tuesday and another day of protest on May 1st. Lawsuits are also planned in Germany.
The Merck-UNIA negotiations
Initially the company had offered the equivalent of one month's salary for each year of service. The UNIA had immediately fought for a better compensation package, in turn putting forward the proposal for a month and a half.
The conciliation instance opted for something in between: an allowance and a month and a quarter. Workers will be advised to accept the offer.
