Pharmacies in second place, behind notaries, in the ranking of the most profitable autonomous activities according to the surveys of the Ministry of Finance. The data are those of sector studies, fiscal year 2009, and the picture that emerges is newsworthy only up to a certain point: if the owners look down on categories such as taxi drivers, jewelers or architects, it is not due to an excess of well-being but respect for the rules (receipts) and customers, because their first buyer is called the SSN and always asks for an "invoice". Apart from the rankings, however, it is worth thinking about the crude figures, in particular those which assign average revenues of 1.2 million euros to Italian pharmacies and a taxable income of almost 110 thousand per company. This is not what the notaries report (income 281 thousand euros) but they are always interesting figures. And also inconvenient, because at the moment, with the government working on liberalizations, they are not helping the owners to demonstrate that the crisis is also affecting pharmacies and adjustments to the quorum must be moderate.
«In reality» objects Marcello Tarabusi, accountant and lawyer «it is an average so generic that any reasoning would have the value of the proverbial half a chicken. In principle it can be said that the data seems more or less close to the reality of things, but it should not be forgotten that in recent years the differences between pharmacies and pharmacies have widened significantly. So much so that today there are rural establishments whose business income does not exceed 30 or 40 thousand euros. In short, to think about the sustainability of the pharmacy with respect to specific interventions, we need many other figures ».

Less than 70 thousand euros a year. It is the average pre-tax income of family doctors and private specialists according to the Ministry of Finance surveys from sector studies, updated to the 2009 fiscal year. The figures, alongside those of the other categories belonging to the self-employment area draw up a ranking that only half can be considered a faithful snapshot of what exists: at the top of "well-being" notaries and pharmacies, with average business or personal incomes of 280,000 and 108,000 euros respectively. Well separated, but still in third place, are medical studies, to which an average declared revenue of 88,000 euros per year and a taxable income from self-employment of almost 68,000 euros are attributed. «They are very generic averages» is the comment of Fiorenzo Corti, external relations manager of Fimmg «but at a rough guess the figure does not stray too far from the picture that we know. Roughly speaking, it means an income per doctor of around 3,500 euros a month».
And no one complains, because from the Finance data it appears that dental practices report an average of around 47 thousand euros a year, engineers 40 thousand, architects 27 thousand and psychologists 20 thousand and so on. Of course, these are values from
