(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 17 - Hundreds of workers, but also citizens, took part today in Pomezia in the demonstration of the employees of the Sigma-Tau plant who have been protesting against possible cuts for weeks. Just yesterday the company had taken a step back by announcing that no layoff letter will be sent on 27 December for the 569 employees at risk. The popular demonstration was held in the morning in support of Sigma Tain employees in response to the layoffs arranged for 569 of them and for the further measures that the company could implement in the coming months. The procession left around 10.00 from the company's factories and then headed towards Piazza Indipendenza where a brief rally was scheduled by the organizers; in addition to the employees of Sigma Tau, various representatives of local politics, the trade unions, representatives of neighboring municipalities, but above all many ordinary people were present, testifying that the appeal launched in recent days by the promoting committee (RSU Sigma Tau) it was collected. Unfortunately however, shortly after departure, a violent downpour began to hit the crowd, creating a lot of inconvenience to those present, especially families, many of whom had small children; nevertheless, the procession, very noisy but absolutely peaceful, continued as if nothing had happened, stoically heading towards the city center, escorted by the forces of order. To mark the march, the chorus "Shame, Shame" addressed to the top management, and the motto of the day "United and Outraged but not resigned!". In fact, among the participants, although not all directly involved, a great spirit of solidarity and understanding emerged against a provision that today brings Sigma Tau into question, but which tomorrow could concern other territorial realities; for this reason the response of the citizens was so strong and neither the rain nor the hail in some moments was enough to stifle the cry of protest of the crowd.
