The consulting firm IDEA Pharma has published what is called theProductive innovation index, which ranks pharmaceutical companies according to their ability to successfully commercialize innovations.
While the index may not represent a complete picture of innovation in the industry, as it doesn't include much other publicly available data about the state of innovation within a company, the results still offer an interesting read.
"We wanted to assess the pharmaceutical industry's ability to add value to, and derive value from, molecules in the pre-launch stage, so we analyzed the key players based on a variety of observations including speed to market, rate of attrition in phase III, sales compared to apparently similar molecules, and regulatory success" he said in a statement Mike Rea, "CEO IDEA Pharma".
Johnson & Johnson won the first place as the most innovative company in the pharmaceutical industry. According to IDEA Pharma, there are two main factors that contributed to the success.
"The success brought by Abiraterone (Zytiga) – in the treatment of prostate cancer – and the fact that at the same time it has also been an important pillar in access toIndex of Medicine, which is of growing importance globally."
