We receive and gladly publish
I would like to share with you a beautiful and new experience. This morning with Emilio and Enrico, two colleagues from the Sectional Board, we took part in the meeting with a class of boys who attend the third year of the “C. Levi” in Portici with a technical, biological and chemical focus.
Their professor, Ambrosiano, as part of the "school/work alternation" project had invited us to better explain our profession of ISF extension. It seemed to us an opportunity not to be missed with a view to greater visibility as a category. And despite it being the first time for all 3 of us, we launched ourselves with enthusiasm and I must say that the result was excellent.
The boys were attentive and showed great interest to the point of asking various specific questions about daily activities, the university course to follow, how to take medicines and knowledge of the leaflet. These are some of the questions. We have somewhat divided the topics trying to deal with them all: starting from the definition of ISF, role, obligations, competences and responsibilities on the basis of the regulations.
Emilio then recounted a typical day, also enriching it with nice daily anecdotes involving the boys. And Enrico, on the other hand, spoke of the various functions and assignments that an ISF can cover throughout its activity. Other curiosities also came out, thanks to the boys.
And we believe we have been quite interesting because we have been offered to enter into an agreement with the institute to formalize ours participation in the project. From September we could have cyclical meetings in which to address various scientific topics or more. We are satisfied because the feedback is very positive. The boys were happy and 2 also expressed the desire to be able to undertake this profession.
Clearly we have exposed the current situation with the difficulties of a category that is not legally recognized. The existence of our national and local association is explained, whose aim is precisely to give due credit to the only professionals who, in the context of the health professions, are not yet recognized as such. And we promised those 2 boys that we will do everything so that, when they reach the end of their university career, they find a register to access as ISF.
We thanked the boys by leaving them some gadgets. And in return we didn't ask for prescriptions but to explain to their families who we are and what we do. Maybe starting from them it will be possible to be looked at with different eyes. Just like today they looked at us. At first we provoked them by asking them what they thought when they met us in the clinic and if their opinion had changed after our chat. They smiled and nodded at us… This is enough for us to hope that there will be other occasions like this. Children remain a great resource for us adults. Their smiles really gave me the energy to continue…
Happy weekend to all of you.
