Controversy. Obligation to vaccinate healthcare workers

Vaccines, Rings (Fnomceo): Obligation of operators if it protects collective health

After compulsory schooling, the issue of vaccinating health workers returns to the fore. A document from the Emilia Romagna Region, aimed at healthcare personnel employed in wards characterized by evident delicacy (oncology, haematology, neonatology, obstetrics, paediatrics, infectious diseases, emergency rooms, transplant centres), has not failed to arouse controversy.

"The right to individual health and the right to collective health must try to go together". Otherwise it is necessary that any measure "has the value of guaranteeing the collective right to health," Filippo Anelli, president of the National Federation of Medical Orders, told AdnKronos Salute, after hearing the matter. Anelli gives the example of the law on compulsory vaccination for children.

"When it was demonstrated that the reduction in vaccination rates affected the right to health of many citizens - he recalls - it was necessary to adopt a measure that protected collective health with respect to the right" of individual choice. "The same goes for healthcare companies" and the operators who work there.

“If there is data demonstrating that this type of measure protects collective health, the measure is correct. Otherwise it is inappropriate, just an electoral advert," he concludes.
