Vaccine plan against Covid-19
The Minister of Health Roberto Speranza presented the guidelines of the Strategic plan for anti-SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 vaccination, elaborated by the Ministry of Health, Extraordinary Commissioner for Emergency, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Agenas and Aifa.
At the conclusion of communications from the Minister of Health the Senate and the House approved the document.
Here are the key points of the plan:
- free and guaranteed vaccination for all
- over 215 million doses available based on the agreements entered into, and after authorization by the EMA and AIFA (updated estimate as at 30 December 2020)
- 27 December 2020, start of vaccination in Italy and Europe (Vaccine day)
- identification of the categories to be vaccinated with priority in the initial phase with limited availability of vaccines: health and social care workers, residents and staff of nursing homes for the elderly
- logistics, procurement, storage and transportationunder the responsibility of the Extraordinary Commissioner
- governance of the vaccination plan, ensured by the constant coordination between the Ministry of Health, the structure of the Extraordinary Commissioner and the Regions and Autonomous Provinces
- informative system to manage the vaccination campaign in an effective, integrated, safe and transparent way
- pharmacosurveillance and immunological surveillance to ensure the highest level of safety throughout the vaccination campaign and the immune response to the vaccine.
