The economic crisis is also hitting the drug industry hard. This is what the president of Farmindustria denounced Massimo Scaccabarozzi, during the conference "Production of value" hosted this morning at Farmintech 2013, the pharmaceutical sector exhibition which is scheduled until tomorrow in the exhibition center of Bologna. “The sector has been heavily targeted in recent years and especially since the last government: there has been a very strong fury, just think that out of 4 manoeuvres, all have seen the pharmacy involved” – declared Scarabozzi.
As for the numbers, the data released during the meeting are not heartening and it emerges that last year, the balance closed with a drop in production. A trend that was also confirmed at the beginning of 2013. Theemployment is declining (-1.5% on average in 2012 and -3% in the last part of the year) with minus 11 thousand employees in the last six years (from 2006 to 2012), with a decrease in 15% and with similar predictions for the future. In 2012, drug business confidence reached its lowest level in the last ten years and the beginning of 2013 did not bring significant trend reversals. Added to this is a 23% decline in investment in clinical trials.
“To face the difficulties of the moment – declared the president of Farmintech Sergio Dompè – we must defend the entire sector chain which is an excellence and must not lose its vision”. All of this in a context in which, Dompè underlined, "the internal market is penalized more and more, but the health sector remains the sector with the greatest future due to the increase in the number of people accessing treatment worldwide and the increase in life expectancy".
