In 2102, the FDA approved 39 new drugs, a record for 16 years
There are encouraging signs that the 2012 figure is not short-lived. The European Medicines Agency informs that it expects registration applications to be filed for 54 new drugs in 2013 (not all of them will be approved, of course), an increase compared to 2012 (52), 2011 (48) and 2010 ( 34).
