FLORENCE (Reuters) - The Florence prosecutor's office has carried out the preventive seizure of 1.2 billion from Lucia and Giovanni Alberto Aleotti, at the top of the Menarini pharmaceutical company, ordered last September.

This was reported by a source with direct knowledge of the situation and confirmed by a note issued by the defenders.
Last September Lucia and Giovanni Alberto were sentenced to 10 years and 6 months and 7 years and six months respectively, for the crimes of tax evasion, money laundering and corruption contested for various reasons. The sentence also ordered the confiscation of the sum.
THE
defenders of the Aleottis, lawyers Traversi and Cordeiro Guerra, have issued a note explaining that they are evaluating the use of the Review.
“We are analyzing the provision in view of a possible request for re-examination. We recall that this is money shielded using the laws made available by the Italian State on which all taxes have been paid, so much so that the Ministry of the Economy did not appear as a civil party in the proceeding against our clients. It should be remembered that two previous preventive seizures were declared illegitimate and therefore canceled by the Court of Cassation".
According to the investigators, from 1984 to 2010 Alberto Aleotti would have used fictitious foreign companies to purchase the used active ingredients, with the aim of increasing the final price of the drugs, thanks to a series of false invoices. The damage to the State would have been 860 million euros.
