Nerviano, Sempione blocked: Teva workers protest
The pharmaceutical company has put the plant in the Milan area up for sale
Teva workers in turmoil they have blocked this morning the Simplon state road in Nerviano, right in front of thepharmaceutical company. Over two hundred people with placards, slogans and even a siren.
Together with them the mayor of Nerviano, Massimo Cozzi: “We cannot accept that this pharmaceutical center can close, leaving 360 people at home by June next year. All of this is unacceptable and we have already written to the Lombardy region, but that is not enough.
The ministry must also intervene and it must do so forcefully because these multinationals cannot always do as they like without taking measures against it".
The Nerviano plant is officially on sale and the fate of the workers at the pharmaceutical site hanging by a thread. So the workers, in agreement with the police, symbolically prevented the passage of cars on the Sempione for several minutes, congesting traffic in the area. All with signs and banners with the words "for sale".
Now the unions are pushing for the interest of third parties to take over the entire Nervia area which employs over 360 families. “We are hoping for the interest of some companies in the sector that can acquire the plant and give people work. Let's talk about the pharmaceutical sector which in this period should not have suffered the negative consequences of the pandemic" explained Mayor Cozzi.
