William C. Weldon, Chief Executive Officer of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) since 2002, will step down in April 2012. Alex Gorsky, head of the medical devices and diagnostic business, will be the new CEO. Weldon will remain President. J&J said the decision to replace Weldon is part of a multi-year planning process and was also driven by increasingly stiff competition from generics and recent US market recalls of several products.
