In September 2020, the seasonally adjusted industrial production index is estimated to decrease by 5.6% compared with August. In the third quarter average, the level of production grew by 28.6% compared to the previous quarter.
Corrected for calendar effects, in September 2020 the overall index decreased in trend terms by 5.1% (there were 22 calendar working days against 21 in September 2019). The declines are greater for capital goods (-7.1%), consumer goods (-5.7%) and intermediate goods (-4.2%), while energy remains substantially stationary (-0.1%).
The only sectors of economic activity that recorded trend increases are mining (+2.7%), the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air (+2.0%) and other industries (+0.2%). Conversely, the greatest declines were recorded in the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries (-20.8%), in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-20.4%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment nec (-11.9%).
