In October 2020, the seasonally adjusted industrial production index is estimated to increase by 1.3% compared to September. On average for the August-October quarter, the level of production grew by 11.7% compared to the previous quarter.
The seasonally adjusted monthly index shows an appreciable cyclical increase for capital goods (+2.6%), a more contained increase for intermediate goods (+1.3%) and an even smaller one for consumer goods (+0.7%) ; conversely, it decreased in the energy sector (-3.0%).
Corrected for calendar effects, in October 2020 the overall index decreased in trend terms by 2.1% (calendar working days were 22 against 23 in October 2019). Tendency declines characterize all sectors; the reduction is less pronounced for intermediate goods (-1.0%) and capital goods (-1.2%), while it is more significant for consumer goods (-4.1%) and energy (-2.7%) .
The sectors of economic activity that recorded the greatest trend increases are the manufacture of means of transport (+5.6%), the manufacture of electrical equipment (+4.0%) and other industries (+3.5%). The largest decreases were recorded in the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-17.4% for both sectors).
