They left within days of each other. The twins Carlantonio and Paolo Mantovani, 71 years old, they died from Covid. They were originally from Cogozzo, a hamlet of Viadana, a town in the province of Mantua. Everyone in Cogozzo knew them. The mother was the teacher, Lea Maffini Mantovani, teacher of many generations of Cogozzesi.
During their existence they had then lived in different municipalities: Paolo in Casalmaggiore in the province of Cremona, Carlantonio instead in the Verona area, in Villafranca. As youngsters they were united by a great passion for the game of soccer, which they practiced with some success.
They thought differently about Covid vaccines. Paolo had decided not to take any doses, while Carlantonio had instead followed the normal vaccination process. “Unlike his brother – wrote Don Andrea Spreafico parish priest of Cogozzo in Facebook page of the parish – Carlantonio had received two doses of the vaccine, which initially seemed to have somehow slowed down the disease. Slowly, however,
the infection led to his death, which occurred during his hospitalization in Milan”.
Very close, they did the same job: they were scientific informants. They spent a lot of time together, they had a great harmony. "Dear Carlantonio - he wrote again in the social parish bulletin - we are heartened to know that after this tragedy you can stay together with your brother".
The news of the death of the Mantovani brothers goes beyond the confines of the local news and finds space today in the national newspapers. Paolo's wife is still in the hospital due to Covid. “She too has always been against the vaccine. Now he is under the oxygen helmet and refuses intubation,” says Don Andrea, who celebrated Carlantonio's funeral.
