There are almost three hundred managers at the head of local health authorities and hospitals in Italy: only the 10% is female, two out of three have been designated by a centre-left junta. More than half then had a first appointment or a renewal in 2007. This is the photograph of the general managers taken from a survey by the Sole-24 Ore on Monday.
Even the latest round of designations has sparked controversy over the links between politics and health care. But the bill linked to the Finance Act presented by the Minister of Health, Livia Turco, promises to reduce discretion in the Regions, favoring quality in the evaluation and selection of candidates.
