Sergio Dompè
Dear colleagues, these days on the internet we are witnessing a plethora of articles and positions relating to the latest pharma scam. Among these, an interview with the president of Farmindustria Doctor Sergio Dompè which appeared in La Stampa on 02 October 2010 by the journalist Flavia Amabile entitled "Farmatruffe d'Italia" could not be missing.
I must say that an official stance was obviously taken by the associative structure that represents the drug manufacturers, but as always, who knows why when one speaks of these nasty acts, everyone raises their hands in horror, criticizes what happened, chats a lot and then everything continues as before. We know the story by now. Those responsible for these misdeeds will not be punished, on the contrary in some cases they will also be rewarded later with even more prestigious assignments, everything will fall into oblivion and whoever has seen it has seen it. In addition to the damage suffered, we will also have to suffer the insult.
Clearly the first to suffer from what is happening will, as always, be the scientific representatives who honestly work and dedicate energy and professionalism to their work, many patients in the waiting rooms will look at us with suspicion and in some cases they will mortify us with a few jokes. But never as in this case is the involvement of pharmaceutical companies at much higher levels than that of the ISFs evident. The chronicles of this misdeed tell us of Managers and Area Managers who busied themselves to buy the "favors" and the patients.
Returning to the article, however, I must note that also in this case we want to portray the pharmaceutical industry as a group of boarders and not for what they are.
Some passages are interesting to understand:
You are once again in the eye of the storm.
«I am amazed. I have been, am and always will be a strong advocate of controls in an area like ours which is essential for citizens. Do you know what my motto is?”
say«The less you read, the more you check. I ask you to double and triple the checks ».
It is absolutely right to say that we are amazed, but what is needed in our sector are not only checks which are not as frequent as they say, but rather exemplary actions are needed by the institutions, with punishments that are actually proportionate to what is happening. A practical example. The regulations in force provide for the suspension or withdrawal from the market of the specialties indicted in an investigation. How come that hasn't happened so far? Let's start immediately, if we really believe it, to act in this sense. The deterrent will be safe.
How widespread is the phenomenon of corruption in the pharmaceutical world?“We need to stop whipping ourselves when these things happen. Let's look at what happens in other countries. In Italy we spend 30% less than the European average on pharmaceutical assistance: 184 euros per citizen, against 260 in Europe».
We're the usual, when you don't like a topic, you find a way to gloss over it. Unfortunately in Italy corruption in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as in other sectors, is the order of the day. In fact, it is enough to look under the surface and scandals and scandals of various kinds immediately emerge. The fact that proportionately less is spent on drugs does not detract from the fact that unfortunately these scandals do exist.
Spending less does not guarantee that there is less corruption.
"Right. But that of Italian drugs is the most contr
