(ASCA) - Rome, March 23 - "Farmindustria has mandated its lawyers to protect the credibility of its associates, undermined only on the basis of an anonymous complaint".
This is what we read in a note from Farmindustria which judges yesterday's report of "Le Iene" on scientific information "seriously harmful to the image of pharmaceutical companies, engaged daily in protecting the health of citizens together with the competent institutions, doctors and to other health professionals. A commitment demonstrated, among other things, by the investments in production and research made in the country”.
Farmindustria, continues the statement, ”on this point recalls how the legislation in force in Italy provides for more restrictive requirements than those already particularly rigorous dictated by the European Union.
The Association has also adopted a deontological code – among the strictest in Europe – to regulate relations between healthcare professionals and the pharmaceutical industry in an extremely detailed and severe way. Compliance with deontological principles is also guaranteed, with checks and sanctions, by a complex system of bodies presided over and composed of magistrates, no longer in office, appointed by the Presidents of the Court of Cassation and the Court of Milan. Lastly, every year all member companies must acquire a quality certification – issued by independent and recognized certification companies – which certifies that the scientific information activities have been carried out in full compliance with the ethical and legal regulations”.
The system, he concludes, "is therefore under close monitoring and is healthy. And if there was evidence of individual misconduct, it would have to be reported to the judiciary. And not be the subject of campaigns that are clearly defamatory of the entire industry”.
