(AGI) - New York, Jan. 2 – 2012 was a good year for drug manufacturers, at least from the point of view of new patents. This is recalled by the Food and Drugs Administration, which in the past year approved 39 new medicines, the highest figure for 16 years now. In December alone, the American agency recalls, there were eight approvals, including a drug for resistant tuberculosis which is the first for this pathology for decades. In 2011 there were 30 new drugs approved, compared to just 21 the previous year.
Among the new molecules of 2012 there are both drugs likely to become 'best sellers', such as Eliquis for the prevention of heart attacks in heart patients, and drugs for 'niche' diseases, such as Cushing's syndrome.
