It is easy to make money on generic medicines if quality controls are lacking or seldom used. AIFA fought for the diffusion of generics, in the hope of reducing pharmaceutical expenditure. Two years later, AIFA itself seems to fear fraud on generic drugs. That same generic drug that (with few checks…) we will find in cooperatives from September, together with beauty products. To save money, one turns a blind eye to quality... And no patient will ever know (until the conclusion of a long investigation) whether or not the generic allopurinol will contain allopurinol and whether or not that generic tablet will contain 300 mg. of active ingredient or 200 mg. of principle mixed to 100 mg. of "filth" (excipients).
And the vitamins? What about antihypertensives? What about diuretics? What about antibiotics? And….and….and… That's how Italy goes today. A pardon for all, even thieves, murderers and terrorists. A pardon for everyone, even for those who – for years – have speculated on people's money: from Cagnotti to Tanzi, to the banks. A pardon for everyone, even for those who - for years - have speculated on people's health. By producing and selling fake medicines to many unsuspecting, sick people.
