It is the most important event for Italian gynecologists. In fact, over 2,000 specialists are crowding the halls of the Albergo delle Povere in Palermo, which until 28 September will host the 87th national congress of the Italian Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (Sigo). But the economic crisis has made itself felt on pharmaceutical companies which should promote and communicate the innovations in the sector. "There has been a drop of at least 40% in the presence of companies compared to last year's congress - says Antonio Perino, president of the congress and director of the obstetrics and gynecological clinic of the University of Palermo - due to the effects of the economic crisis. Companies have had to reduce the funds allocated to this type of event. And the consequences of the cut are visible these days".
