Today, with the indication in the Conference of the Presidents of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces, and the subsequent ratification in the State-Regions Conference, the Director General of Health of the 
Veneto Region, Domenico Mantoan, has been designated President of the Italian Medicines Agency – AIFA. The formal appointment will be made by the President of the Council of Ministers.
Mantoan, who will remain at the head of Veneto healthcare until the end of the legislature, and will mature the requirements for retirement in the spring, was chosen on a technical level, in the light of the professionalism and competence demonstrated so far in his work, and for the consistency of the curriculum.
The designation at the AIFA leadership is a recognition for the activity carried out over many years by Mantoan in various areas of health care in the Veneto region and at all the national tables, as well as a certificate for the virtuous management of the entire sector by the Region.

(FNOMCeO), Philip Rings, welcomes the news of the appointment by the Minister for Regional Affairs Francesco Bowl and on the unanimous recommendation of the Conference of Regions, by Domenico mantoan, technician of the Veneto Region, as president of Aifa, the Italian Medicines Agency. The formal appointment will be made by the President of the Council of Ministers.
“We will ask Mantoan, as one of the first acts after he took office, to open a Prescribing Table involving Doctors, those professionals who have the responsibility and competence - continues Rings -. Yesterday we addressed the issue at the permanent table with the Regions, acknowledging great openness and availability ".
“In particular, an all-Italian anomaly should be remedied, according to which today the prescription of innovative drugs, for example those for diabetes, for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or the new anticoagulants, is limited by law to a few specialists - continues -. We are talking about effective, safe drugs that have been on the market for even ten years, so much so that they are about to lose or have lost their patent, and which have shown over time to have fewer side effects than first generation medicines. We ask that their prescription be open to all doctors, specialists of any branch and general practitioners. This would mean greater accessibility to the most appropriate treatments for all citizens, with savings in terms of hospitalizations and treatment of adverse events".
