After the era of medicines taken by mouth or intravenously, in the future the active ingredients will be conveyed with special "patches".
More than 100 years of history, but is about to launch a highly innovative product in the panorama of the Italian pharmaceutical industry. The Bouty Healthcare group, listed since last October on the Expandi segment of the Italian Stock Exchange, has developed a technology that could revolutionize the way medicines are used. Instead of the classic pills or vials, in the future it will be possible to use "maps" which, placed directly on the tongue, will allow the active ingredient to be immediately assimilated, without risk to the body. "We have already received the green light from the Ministry of Health for the use of this patent" Lorenzo Castellini, president of Bouty, tells Economy, "and we already have a couple of contracts ready, but we strongly believe in the growth of this product". Furthermore, the group has also tested a sophisticated technology that allows the active ingredients to be spread directly on particular plasters, a transdermal application that is attracting the attention of the pharmaceutical world. But the group is also active in more traditional sectors, such as that of clinical analysis kits, which it will soon complete with the launch of a machine for the automatic diagnosis of infectious and autoimmune diseases. «With the proceeds from the IPO (around 15 million euros, ed.) we are looking abroad for acquisitions» adds Castellini, who has a good intention for 2008: to move to the Star segment.
