The season of renewals of national employment contracts expiring this year opens, starting with chemists, with the first meeting this morning in Rome between the business associations Federchimica, Farmindustria and the trade unions in the sector Filctem-Cgil, Femca-Cisl, Uilcem- Uil.
Historically, the renewal of chemists is the one that involves the least difficulty in reaching a satisfactory agreement for the parties: good industrial relations, the average size of the companies and the high capital and innovation intensity lead to closing quickly and without trauma the negotiations.
The strategic function of this contract is confirmed by Alberto Morselli, general secretary of Filctem-Cgil: "The chemical and pharmaceutical sectors are fundamental for the country and for the entire manufacturing industry, but they still struggle to have adequate consideration, in particular by the Government and institutions – comments the trade unionist – Yet research and innovation, biotechnologies and nanotechnologies, life sciences, environmental sustainability, energy savings and efficiency are the essential reference framework for an industrial policy worthy of the name, in the absence of which it will be impossible to respond to the pressing needs of competitiveness and overcome the global challenges with other industrial systems".
The demands of the workers' organizations, which are presented together with the negotiations, start from wage increases, in a range between 7 and 9% for the three-year period 2013 - 2015, in addition to the compensation for previous inflation. Other requests concern industrial relations, with the launch of the National Observatory, contractual welfare (extension of Faschim and an increase in the company contribution to Fonchim), the fight against precariousness, training and safety at work.
