Pharmaceutical companies will no longer be forced to reduce the public price of medicines paid by the national health service by 5%. This is what a government amendment to the budget provides for. For category C medicines, for which a medical prescription is not required, prices are frozen for the whole of 2007. For those with a prescription, the price cannot be higher than that of 2006 increased by the inflation value.
