Over the next 15 years, the Italian pharmaceutical market will drop from 6th to 15th place in the world rankings, overtaken by many emerging countries. This was the warning raised by Pierluigi Antonelli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bristol-Myers Squibb, during the meeting on new business models promoted by Il Sole 24 Ore. According to Antonelli, pharmaceuticals, which weigh only 16% on Italian health expenditure, "have done their part by undergoing drastic cuts", now hopes are pinned on the reform of fiscal federalism announced by Giulio Tremonti on condition that standard costs are adopted everywhere.
