"We are between a rock and a hard place: on the one hand we are asked to contain spending and therefore to discharge patients as quickly as possible, on the other the judiciary, legitimately from your point of view, condemns us if something happens to the discharged patient". It is starting from this "intolerable" situation that Maurizio Maggiorotti, president of Amami, the association of doctors unjustly accused of malpractice, explains today's protest on "No D-Day", "a day in which all colleagues are symbolically invited not to discharge patients" adds Maggiorotti. That the category feels pressure is evident from the numbers recently provided by the Rome Medical Association, 68.2%, in fact, feels more at risk today than in the past. "And the recent sentences of the Cassation have, if possible, made things worse," underlines President Amami. Another bitter chapter is that of compulsory conciliation «which starts from a sacrosanct principle legislated in a foolish way» increases Maggiorotti. The rule has been in effect since March 21 but «there are still many knots to untie. One above all the risk of an increase in the use of criminal charges by some lawyers ». The solution to this situation, according to the president of Amami, would be and is represented by «compulsory insurance with direct action for doctors. A possibility that the insurance companies do not take into consideration» explains Maggiorotti. Today is the day of the protest and "the hope is that membership will be massive" concludes President Amami.
