Active ingredient must always appear, whether or not accompanied by the name of the drug
November 21st, 8.39pm
ROME - Senate agreement on drugs. The active ingredient must always appear on the prescription, even if the doctor chooses to combine it with the indication of a precise brand of the drug. The amendments presented by the senators to the development decree aimed instead to cancel the obligation of the active ingredient in the recipe.
The text provides that the doctor, when prescribing a new therapy, "indicates the name of the active ingredient in the recipe", "or the name of a specific medicinal product based on the same active ingredient accompanied by the name of the latter". The indication of a specific brand remains binding for the pharmacist when the non-substitutability is indicated and when the drug has a price equal to the reimbursement price "unless otherwise requested by the customer".
