The shortage of drugs is back in the limelight and this time the Citizen Defense Movement is relaunching the complaint, which has sent a complaint to the Ministry of Health, the Higher Health Council, the Public Prosecutors of Rome and Ragusa, Nas, Finance and the Antitrust.
The story from which the complaint arises, as the Movement reports in a note, concerns "twins from Modica who cannot find the drug Mestinon 180 mg that they need to treat myasthenia gravis", a case that the Movement is following days: «for three weeks» is the complaint «they have not been able to intercept packages of the drug in any pharmacy or in the distribution centers of the entire national territory. The drug was supposed to be available from February 20 but in reality it is not like this: it is not found in pharmacies in Sicily and seems absent in national pharmacies and warehouses »according to research done by the Movement.
Meanwhile, "the twins have drug coverage for a few months, guaranteed thanks to the packages found in the warehouses of a few pharmacies and the social network that has been activated to help them". Is the shortage linked to «export?» is the question that prompted the association to present the complaint so that "any abuses in the management of the so-called "parallel trade" can be ascertained". And the note also mentions some numbers: «According to Icom data, it is possible to estimate that a good third of European parallel trade drugs come from Italy.
In the last four years, the Regions and the Ministry of Health have authorized 400 new drug wholesalers to which are also added 300 pharmacies authorized to export». In short, yet another stone was thrown, but regardless of the situation underlying the case, the denunciation of the Movement also serves as a reminder that the issue is one on which we must not let our guard down and perhaps it can also be an opportunity to resume the process started last year by the Ministry and the supply chain.
