A US distributor of generic drugs has sued Chiesi, a well-known pharmaceutical multinational based in Parma, contesting four patents relating to drugs for high blood pressure. Chiesi has not used original active ingredients, but has patented their method of administration, in an easily usable single-dose form.
The lawsuit was filed in New Jersey federal court by Sandoz Inc., which claims that Chiesi's patented dosage of four different drugs distributed through the former Cornerstone Therapeutics - recently absorbed by Chiesi - were actually already in use.
