In July 2019, the seasonally adjusted industrial production index is estimated to decrease by 0.7% compared to June. On average for the May-July quarter, the seasonally adjusted level of production decreased by 0.3% compared to the previous three months.
The seasonally adjusted monthly index shows a cyclical increase only for energy (+1.3%); decreases instead, they were recorded for capital goods (-1.6%) and, to a lesser extent, for consumer goods (-0.3%) and for intermediate goods (-0.2%).
Corrected for calendar effects, in July 2019 the overall index decreased in trend terms by 0.7% (there were 23 working days, against 22 in July 2018).
In July 2019, the indices corrected for calendar effects recorded an accentuated trend increase for energy (+5.8%) and a more limited one for consumer goods (+0.9%); capital goods decreased markedly (-3.0%) while the decrease in intermediate goods was more moderate (-2.0%).
Among the sectors of economic activity that recorded positive trend changes, we note the other manufacturing industries, the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air (+6.4% for both sectors), the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+ 5,1%). The largest decreases were recorded in the manufacture of machinery, equipment nec (-6.9%), in the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries (-6.1%), and in rubber, plastic material, non-metallic mineral articles (- 3.0%).
