The doctor was verbally and physically attacked by a patient who wanted to hide his pathologies in order to continue driving
Leonardo Trentadue, a family doctor from Ferrandina (Matera), was the victim of an assault by a patient because he did not issue a false medical certificate necessary for the renewal of his licence. The patient, at the time of Trentadue's refusal, lashed out at the doctor, causing him to fracture his femur and verbally assaulting him. The man was reported for resistance to a public official and very serious injuries.
The episode took place in Ferrandina, in the province of Matera on Friday 1 September. This was announced by Michele Campanaro, the Matera provincial secretary of the federation of general practitioners, who defended the work of Dr. Trentadue: "The correct certification of what is directly observed or known to the doctor is an act which, in addition to constitute a deontological obligation, is also intended to protect the safety of all citizens".
The attack caused the doctor several injuries, including a fractured femur: the man was judged to be healable within 40 days.
