The treatment relationship does not go in time: harsh intervention by the FNOMCeO
An oncological visit? It can't last more than 20 minutes. An obstetric or gynecological ultrasound? Likewise. Half an hour, on the other hand, is allowed for a gastroscopy, 35 minutes if a "biopsy of one or more sites of the esophagus, stomach or duodenum" also needs to be done.
These are just a few examples taken from one of the Tempari of specialist outpatient services that some Regions have imposed by decree, without consulting the doctors' representatives.
The reaction of Fnomceo lasts, which in the National Council yesterday unanimously approved a Motion in Siena to reiterate "that the ratio of number of services / unit of time, typical of the manufacturing industry, is not applicable to Medicine", to denounce the danger to the health of patients and the debasement of the treatment relationship and to request "the withdrawal of the provisions on time schedules in the Regions in which they have been approved without consulting the Profession".
“I don't even want to think that I can't prolong a morphological ultrasound until I have full certainty that the fetus is healthy, or that I can't take all the time necessary to communicate an ominous diagnosis, just to stay within my experience as a radiologist - said the President of Fnomceo, Roberta Chersevani -. Our Code of Conduct clearly reiterates that communication time is also time for care. Do we want an outlawed Code? A care relationship or by the hour or clandestine? Do we want to skimp on the amount of care provided to our patients, measuring it with a stopwatch? Fnomceo cannot accept it”.
