Practice disowned by science but widely followed by "therapists" and patients. Who are often not desperate and fragile people, but cultured, prepared and who tell of having chosen - in the face of a cancer diagnosis - to rely on NMG: no scalpel, no drugs and no more tests that would compromise the self-healing process of the 'body.
The accusations against Hamerian associations and groups, which offer assistance, promote training courses and publish books, are serious. They are organized as a secret cult that pushes patients to stop their medical therapies. Not only. Behind them they leave a trail of deaths and court cases: so are the relatives of their patients who later died as well as many experts. We spread knowledge useful for understanding the origin of diseases and we promote everyone's right to choose how to be treated, but we don't offer alternative therapies, say the Hamerians. Who have returned to the limelight with the recent events in Turin. There have been at least three cancer patients in recent years who have refused conventional treatment because they relied on the Hamer method and then died. An investigation has been opened into the death of Marina L., a 53-year-old woman suffering from melanoma. Her doctor and homeopath Germana Durando is accused of manslaughter with the aggravating circumstance of guilt with prediction. He would have treated the patient's tumor only with psychology and homeopathy. The Order of Doctors of Turin has started a disciplinary procedure and will appear as a civil party in the trial. It is impossible to say how many patients in Italy turn to NMG and how much follow-up these practices have. They arrived here over ten years ago (they were born in 1981) and even if they are hidden away they are more widespread than you think. There have been other cases that have gone to court, some resulting in convictions. Sometimes they are doctors but more often "therapists" or ordinary citizens who carry on the theories of the former German doctor.
STRESS IN ZONES
But what does the NMG profess? The basis is the "Five Biological Laws" according to which the "so-called diseases" are caused by trauma or psychological conflicts called "Dirk Hamer Syndrome". From here a "special, biological and sensible program" would be activated in the body which would be the way in which our body copes with the problem. For every emotional stress there would be an organ. If the conflict is resolved, the phase of reparation and self-healing begins. Furthermore, microbes would not be the cause of pathologies, but our allies in regaining health. A guide can be found on the websites of the Italian groups that refer to Hamer (Alba, Association of applied biological laws; nuovamedicina.com; nuovamedicinagermanica.it; Active health onlus; training5lb.eu). There are also videos of the lessons held by Marco Pfister, Hamerian forerunner in Italy and president of the 5Lb training school. Here are some excerpts. The situation, we read, "is very delicate in cases of clinical emergency due to the fact that, since the 5 biological laws are not officially recognized, there are no clinics, hospitals or official consensus places where the patient who decides to be treated on the basis of this knowledge can receive the desired treatments in respect of his free choice". Then the more questionable statement: "It is no longer possible for those who choose to follow this path to hope to be able to blindly entrust their skin to the doctor, clinic or drug", who "can support us for the too demanding symptoms, but the body does the reparation process to the extent that we are willing to review some life attitudes». Breast cancer "explained" by NMG: if a woman perceives that "there is some difficulty within her nest and that in a figurative sense she needs more nourishment" and the condition persists, "she will form a round and compact lump , which can be felt to the touch but does not hurt. This process is called adenocarcinoma. But, says the dangerous theory, it is "a phenomenon that is a natural disposition, the essence of motherhood".
THE CONDEMNATION OF SCIENCE
Hamer himself expounds the «iron rule of cancer» and describes «the surgery of nature». Still on breast cancer: "The newborn in the mother's arms slips out of her hands, hits its head and remains unconscious for a while", hence the "biological conflict of mother-child care" and the disease. In the "active conflict" phase the cancer grows, while in the healing phase it would be "demolished, resolved through microbes" such as tuberculosis. Again: «If in the so-called official medicine the diagnosis of cancer is communicated to a patient, almost everyone experiences it as an exhausting shock which can cause panic conflicts and with this new cancers, which are considered as metastases». Another dangerous thesis: "One should operate only when it would seem the most sensible solution, that is, when spontaneous healing would last too long". Leaving it to "mother nature" means "do not administer chemo, radiation or morphine". Online there are also dozens of signed letters from patients who claim to be cured of cancer thanks to 5Lb. «In the hospital I felt like a number – they write – and they didn't assure me that I will recover. Thanks to Hamer, I'm fine now and continue my life without fear." Naturally the risk increases if doctors follow these precepts. «By filing a civil action – explains Guido Giustetto, president of the Turin Medical Association – we want to shed light on the critical issues of this alternative practice devoid of scientific evidence. It is important to reiterate that non-conventional medicines are complementary and not substitutes for official medicine. The doctor must never remove the patient from scientifically based treatments». Ilario D'Amato, a journalist who has been studying the Hamer «phenomenon» for years (his website is www.dossierhamer.it) says: «There is not a single documented case of the effectiveness of these theories. Here, the ex-doctor's followers are very many and feed a vast turnover between books, courses, magazines, membership fees. They are a real medical cult. They move in the undergrowth of the web, by word of mouth and with conferences. Among them many doctors who usually don't openly declare anything compromising, but we don't know what happens in their studies. In Europe, about 140 cases of people who died for choosing NMG are documented, all suffering because the use of morphine is also prevented. In Italy there have been dozens of cases in recent years, in the silence of the institutions ».
THE FOLLOWERS
Giulio Cesare Senatore, entrepreneur, is president of Active Health onlus: «Many say they are following Hamer's discoveries – he says -, some end up in controversial stories. However, individual responsibilities do not justify statements such as that patient died due to NMG. We provide information on the right to therapeutic choice and on the Five Biological Laws, which are a useful map for understanding the disease-healing processes. They are not a therapy, they do not prescribe the suspension of conventional treatments and disregard the ideological positions of Dr. Hamer ». And the accusations of being a cult? “Unfounded. For years we have been asking, unfortunately without success, for scientific experimentation on the effectiveness of 5Lb and on the mind-body connection. I believe that medicines for and against are not useful: medicine should be centered on respect for the person. If there is a clinical emergency that jeopardizes the patient's life, it is the doctor's duty to evaluate it and intervene. However, we denounce a serious lack of transparency in drug testing. In fact, half of the results are not published». Fabrizio Camilletti, operator of «Emotional Biological Medicine», collaborated with Hamer for some years. «Then – he explains – I understood that his therapeutic methods and the most extreme formulations of his doctrine are not applicable. My fellowship, Academy of Emotional Biological Medicine, recognizes the principles of the body's self-healing power and the substance of 5Lb. But for us, these must be integrated with recognized medical therapies. Above all, let's not admit that someone can be advised not to take treatment"
