In April 2016, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial production increased by 0.5% compared to March. On average for the February-April 2016 quarter, production grew by 0.4% compared to the previous quarter.
Corrected for calendar effects, in April 2016 the index increased in trend terms by 1.8% (working days were 20 against 21 in April 2015). On average for the first four months of the year, production increased by 1.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The seasonally adjusted monthly index shows positive cyclical variations in the segments of intermediate goods (+2.2%) and consumer goods (+1.1%); instead, energy (-1.5%) and capital goods (-0.1%) decreased.
In trend terms, the indices adjusted for calendar effects recorded, in April 2016, increases in the groupings of intermediate goods (+4.2%), capital goods (+3.7%) and consumer goods (+0.4%) ; on the other hand, energy shows a negative change (-3.7%).
As regards the sectors of economic activity, in April 2016 the sectors that recorded the greatest trend growth were those of the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+6.3%), the manufacture of rubber and plastic items, other processing of non-metallic minerals
(+5.9%) and the manufacture of chemicals (+5.2%).
Decreases were instead noted in the sectors of mining (-15.7%), textile, clothing, leather and accessories (-3.3%) and the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air (-1. 4%).
