(ANSA) - TERLIZZI (BARI), NOVEMBER 9 - Three doctors were arrested by the Guardia di Finanza of Molfetta (Bari) because they were accused of having used the ophthalmology department of the 'Sarcone' hospital in Terlizzi as a private practice, managing visits and interventions on patients and causing economic damage to the ASL of Bari. The arrested are the head of the eye department and two ophthalmologists external to the hospital. The investigations were coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Trani.
Reggio Calabria, Nas denounce 4 doctors for fraud worth 165 thousand euros
Reggio Calabria, 2 Nov. – (Adnkronos) – The Carabinieri of the Nas of Reggio Calabria, at the conclusion of an investigation carried out in the sector of contrasting public health scams, have identified general practitioners, affiliated with the NHS, who illegally received emoluments foreseen for the management of a de facto inoperative mixed medical association.
This type of association allows patients to take advantage of outpatient clinics open for a longer period of time than in a single doctor's office, thus avoiding, for less serious cases (so-called white codes), having to go to the Emergency Department. Furthermore, the doctors of these structures have increased compensation for each individual patient. The investigations carried out by the Carabinieri of the Reggio Nas have instead shown that the surgery, with opening hours to the public from 8 to 20 on weekdays, was in reality often closed because the doctors disregarded their shift.
During the investigation, the military also ascertained that one of the doctors: had repeatedly attested absences from the clinic, due to trade union activities, declaring that his son (specializing in general medicine) covered his shift, who , on the other hand, he too was often absent due to attending university courses; together with a colleague of his, he had falsely declared the hiring of secretarial collaborators, thus illegally receiving the additional incentives provided.
