The staff of Merck Serono, on strike to protest against the closure of the Geneva site of the German group, today accepted the conciliation procedure proposed by the Council of State of Geneva. The Unia union, as well as the company's management, are convened for Tuesday. The cantonal government has deemed it appropriate to address this instance because it deems it imperative to renew the dialogue between personnel and management on a social level.
During a general assembly, the 400 employees present on the spot took note of this procedure which obliges them to stop fighting measures.
In the afternoon, the management of the company announced that it will present itself to the chamber of collective labor relations of the canton "to find solutions and calm the situation". Merck Serono hopes that the meeting will allow the other party to understand how the social plan will be applied, which the German group considers good. Employees and unions are of different opinion.
