According to the data presented in Rome on the occasion of a Farmindustria conference, of the 108 billion euros of the National Health Fund, the 5-10% is wasted on unnecessary hospitalizations, purchases of goods and services, too many outpatient services and poorly managed personnel. Between 2008 and 2009, Nas and the GdF also carried out 44,000 inspections, identified 8,000 administrative offences, arrested 209 people and calculated tax damages of 215 million euro. The President of Farmindustria Sergio Dompé proposes a solidarity pact to combat waste and inefficiency, with times and ways to be defined between the Government, the Regions and NHS suppliers to "accompany the realities with heavy deficits towards the end of the emergency". Meanwhile, the Minister of Health Ferruccio Fazio indicates that the publication of indicators of "efficiency and appropriateness" will be forthcoming.
