After the oath in the hands of the President of the Republic, which took place on 8 May, the new government, led by Silvio Berlusconi, took office in Palazzo Chigi.
The Ministry of Health, in implementation of the provisions of the 2008 Finance Law (art.1 paragraph 376 – Law 244/2007) merges into the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Policies.
The new Minister is Maurizio Sacconi, born in Conegliano (Treviso) on 13 July 1950, married and father of a son, graduated in law, was elected Senator in the PDL in this year's general elections, and on 8 May he received the new government mandate.
Minister Sacconi boasts a long political and parliamentary career, first in the PSI and then in Forza Italia. In recent years, he has linked his name in particular to employment policies, collaborating with Marco Biagi in drafting the 2001 White Paper, and then committing himself to the approval of those reform projects after the assassination of the Bolognese jurist.
Between 1987 and 1994 he was undersecretary several times. After an experience at the International Labor Organization in Geneva, he returned to politics in the ranks of Forza Italia and became undersecretary for labor from 2001 to 2006.
