This is the figure that emerges from the AIFA Information Bulletin on Medicines; in the first four months of this year, in fact, 2,117 conferences were authorized compared to 4,792 in the first four months of 2006. Up until April 2007, 2,047 national and 69 foreign events were authorized, compared to 4,606 conferences in Italy, and 186 in Italy. abroad in the same period of 2006. The drastic reduction in the number of events organized corresponds, in terms of investments, to a decrease of the 73% between the two periods under comparison. Between January and April of last year, the companies estimated spending of around 160,389,601.76 euros for congresses in Italy and abroad. In the first four months of 2007, expenditure amounted to 42,391,316.58 euros. On the other hand, the number of events organized by several sponsors increased slightly: from 24% last year to 30% in 2007. As regards CME courses (continuing medical education), again in the same reference period, in 2007 1,239 training events compared to 4,454 in 2006, with a decrease of 70%. On the other hand, this strong reduction is contrasted by the increase of about 60% of non-ECM events in 2007 (from 338 events in 2006 to 878 in 2007, again in the January-April period).
